Hi! My name is Candace Longhorn, though you will probably know me by my pen name of Candace Maitland.

I grew up in the small town of Sarnia, Ontario which I have recently moved back to with my family.

I briefly moved away to the Toronto area to attend Durham College’s “Animal Care” program where I met my now husband Neil. I had initially planned to graduate this program and apply to the Veterinary program in Edinburgh but I learned very quickly that I could not handle sutures. Determined not to let that stop me, I entered the work field getting myself lots of exposure. It didn’t work though. After 7 years in the industry, I got pregnant with my first child and decided to become a stay-at-home mom.

After a couple years and a move back to my hometown, my friend convinced me to write a story based on experiences from past vet hospital jobs as a way to pass the time while my son was in hospital. Sure enough, once I started writing, suddenly a whole fictional storyline came to mind and now it’s grown into my debut novel “The Morning Co-op”.

Aside from writing my days are filled with taking care of my two, almost three, kiddos, my dog Nyx and my home library of over 1000 books. Though, if you ask my husband, he would say I spend all day planning more home projects for him to work on, but that’s only every other week *wink* so I don’t count it!
